Furniture Guide: The 4 W's of Furnishing A Room

There is no doubt that our homes perform different functions for us. Simultaneously, our home can be a lot different things for different people. It can be a substitute office for both the husband and the wife, a play room for kids, a library that stores books, or a place where our kids can do their homeworks, and a storage place for all our possessions. Our homes are living, breathing, working and relaxing place for different people.

With that said, we can just imagine how to design this home into one thing that organizes and pulls together all the functions and all the spaces and how to actually start doing it. Here are the four Ws of Interior Decorating and room furnishing that will help you start with the task.

1. Who is using the room? - Knowing who will be using the space you are furnishing or decorating will help limit the choices you will be making in the process, letting you save on time, and making decorating more effective, suited and operational for the room occupant.

2. When is the room used? ? Most family members are out during the day. Thus, their rooms are often left unoccupied until after work, after school, or until they are back home again. Knowing when the space will be used will help you decide which furniture the room occupant will need most, based on when and how much time will be spent in the room.

3. What goes on in the room? ? It is important for you to know the activities done in the room. Knowing what goes on in the room will affect the choices on the kind of furniture you will be buying for the space. It will also spare you not only the time but also on the money you will be spending on unnecessary furniture and fixture if you did not know about the room occupant and the purpose or function of the space.

4. Where is the action taking place? ? Yes, you may be given a room, a space. But a space can house several functions at the same time. For example, a bedroom may be divided into several areas for sleeping, a desk for working and a small area for entertainment appliances. Finding out where most of the action will take place helps you to concentrate and organize on what goes where, if it is ergonomic, and if it results to the kind of room conducive to the purpose for which it was created in the first place.

Most people who work in an office find that they spend the majority of their days in an office chair. There are many different types of office chairs available on the office furniture market that can range from very affordable to quite expensive. Many times the relatively inexpensive office chairs can cause discomfort or problems associated with back pain and even some of the more expensive chairs arent designed any better. The more expensive office chairs are only more expensive because they are made from more expensive materials, not necessarily because they have a more comfortable design. The need for more comfortable office chairs has led to a good deal of research and eventually the design of something called an ergonomic office chair.

Ergonomics is a term that is being used more and more often in the design of all types of furniture. An ergonomic office chair is a chair that should be able to adjust to each individuals needs for comfort and in their ability to perform. An essential part of a good ergonomic office chair is the ability for the user to be able to adjust the chair with easy to use controls in order to find the perfect seating position. Most people who use ergonomic office chairs claim to have experienced a lessening in the common aches and pains that are associated with common office chairs including neck pain, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome and other related problems. Ergonomic office chairs are made in a variety of designs and colors to suit any type of office environment.
