Every summer we used to meet over at Mee Maw and Paw Paw?s house on the pond for a family reunion after church ? same Sunday every year. And you?d show up bringing your latest addition, or attachment, philosophy on life, lingering grudge, or the dish you were known for making, like Aunt Bitsy?s congealed salad surprise which just goes to show that surprises aren?t always a good thing.

And somewhere after dinner or supper or lunch - whatever you like to call it depending on where you are from - we?d all collapse anywhere we could find a spot inside to avoid the heat and commence to staring at each other and just talking. And somewhere out of the tranquil boredom of that Sunday afternoon a bud of an argument would sprout ? usually over politics or religion or Cousin Enid?s latest experimentations with the darker side of life - something that tends to happen when you put folks together that are bonded by blood instead of choice.

And just when things would get heated to the point where you were sure it would come to blows or that Mee Maw?s heart would give out once and for all, Uncle Skeet would pull out his guitar and quietly start to pick. Sometimes it was a little Hank, sometimes a little Willie, and sometimes one of those good old Gospel bluegrass favorites of my childhood. And quietly underneath the tension the tune would float through the air. Some bright morning when this life is over. I?ll fly away. And someone would start to hum. Another would tap his foot. Eyes would close. To that home on God?s celestial shore. I?ll fly away. And as the tune picked up in speed, without prodding, some folks would get up and push back the furniture. And we?d start to dance. Hand in hand. I?ll fly away oh glory, I?ll fly away. And in that one moment the rest of the world grew blurry. In that moment we forget about our differences. We remembered what brought us together. In that moment it was about the music. And we?d dance.

Employment and Wages in the American Furniture Industry

Total employment in the American furniture industry (household and office segments) stood at 557,000 persons in 2006. Employment in all of manufacturing totaled 14.2 million persons. Thus, the furniture industry accounts for only 3.9% of the manufacturing total, and only 0.4% of the 137 million people in total with jobs in the United States in 2006.

During the past two decades and up to the beginning of this century, furniture employment has been on the rise, a claim that cannot be made by manufacturers in general. However, starting in 2001, furniture employment entered a declining phase. Between 1996 and 2006, the level of furniture industry employment fell by 7.7% while total manufacturing employment fell by 17.6%. The reason for this phenomenon lies in the fact that the furniture industry lends itself less to labor-saving technologies than other industries.

Kitchen cabinet, household and institutional furniture manufacturers employed 66.2% of the people in the overall furniture and fixtures industry. The remaining 33.8%, are employed by office and other furniture manufacturers. Though it still commands the greater share today, kitchen cabinet, household and institutional furniture manufacturers witnessed a gradual erosion in their share of total furniture and fixtures industry employment over the last two decades.

The non-production worker share varies widely across the various furniture segments. The non-production share is generally higher within the office group (28%) compared to the household group (21%). Since office furniture is frequently distributed directly by the manufacturers, more marketing and design staff must be retained by office furniture manufacturers.

Production worker employment in the manufacture of furniture and fixtures has declined more rapidly than that of non-production workers. In 1996 salaried and commissioned workers accounted for only 20.9% of total employment in this industry but that share gradually increased to exceed 22.4% at the present time. The long-term increase in the share of non-production employees reflects both the introduction of labor-saving technology (which has reduced the relative need for production workers) and the increasingly complex business environment (which requires more marketing and administrative workers to move furniture products from the plant to the final consumer).

Wheelchair basketball is a very common wheelchair sport. It was started over forty years ago by the Veteran?s Association as a rehabilitation program, and over the years has grown in leaps and bounds. Today wheelchair basketball is a professional sport that offers more than 180 teams across the United States. Different versions of wheelchair basketball have spawned off of wheelchair basketball, and are very fun to play. Some even have lower, netted basketball rims that return the ball back to the players without having to chase it down.

In order to play wheelchair basketball, it is essential to have a lightweight wheelchair. Several sports wheelchairs are on the market today just for sports enthusiasts. And if you are an amputee, several prosthetic devices have been created to enjoy the sport even more. The most common upper body prosthetic ? the Super Sport, which is manufactured by TRS, Inc. ? comes in different sizes and was specifically designed for playing various sports including ball sports.

The Special Olympics added Boccia ball to its itinerary years ago, and it is game that can be enjoyed by all wheelchair users. You can play it either indoors or outdoors, and set up is a breeze. You need a target ball and six balls for each player. All you have to do is try and get your ball closest to the target ball thrown at the beginning of the game. Points are awarded based on the proximity of balls to that of the target ball.

Another wheelchair sport, quad rugby, was specifically designed for quadriplegics unable to play wheelchair basketball. It is a mixture of wheelchair basketball and ice hockey. In 1988 quad rugby players officially started the United States Quad Rugby Association, and has over 40 teams on its membership roster.

To play the game you must have two teams of four players each. Each player is classified based on impairment - .5 being the greatest impairment and 3.5 being the least impairment, and teams cannot not exceed an 8.

The players then have four 8-minute quarters in which the offense must carry the ball to their goal (on the other team?s side of the court). The defense is constantly trying to prevent the other team from scoring. The team who reaches the other person?s goal line most frequently wins.

Power soccer is another fun wheelchair sport that can rev the sport enthusiast?s engine. Players in power soccer must have an electric wheelchair.

Two teams have two 30-minute halves to push the soccer ball over the other team?s goal line. The team to reach the other person?s goal most frequently wins.

So, just because you are in a wheelchair doesn?t mean that you cannot enjoy sports activities. And based on the sport you choose to participate in, there are several wheelchair sports accessories available for you, including belts and harnesses, gloves, bags for carrying items, drink holders and specialty back supports.

The Care And Feeding Of Outdoor Teak Furniture

Left on its own without maintenance, teak will weather and eventually turn a soft gray color. Many people prefer the gray look and letting it turn that color does not affect the strength of the wood. Sometimes teak will turn green instead of grey.

In order to get the longest life from your outdoor teak furniture it is important that you treat the teak wood at least once per year to maintain its water and insect-resistance and to prevent splitting or warping. Some people prefer to treat their outdoor teak furniture twice; once at the start of the outdoor season and again at the end.

Here's how to do it:

1. Wash each outdoor teak furniture piece with a mild soap and warm water. Murphy's Oil Soap is a good choice, but you can use any mild soap or detergent. Use a soft, lint-free cloth to get the stubborn dirt out if you need to. Washing the wood this way not only removes the surface dirt, but it also removes mold, mildew and surface oxidation.

2. Rinse the wood thoroughly to remove all dirt and soap residue and let dry overnight.

3. Sand the exposed teak wood surfaces with fine grain sandpaper. Choose #320 grit if available. Be sure to sand with the grain and never against the grain. You only need to sand enough of the teak surface to expose the natural color of the wood. Do not over-sand.

4. Wipe of all of the residual sawdust off using a clean, dry and soft lint-free cloth. Be sure to get the sawdust that might be caught in corners or where pieces of teak wood overlap.

5. Use a soft natural-bristle paintbrush to apply a coat of teakwood oil to all of the exposed surfaces on each piece of your outdoor teak furniture. Apply the teak oil liberally but do not over-saturate the wood. Use even brush strokes.

6. Allow the first coat to dry for at least one hour and then apply a second coat. Continue the process until your outdoor teak furniture is the color that you want it to be.

With a little bit of care and maintenance you should get many years of enjoyable use out of your outdoor teak furniture.

Every field has an epitome, the one thing that is considered to be the finest example of what that particular field is capable of. In many cases, there are a number of different possibilities that compete for this title. For instance, in the world of the culinary arts, one might argue that fillet mignon is the height of culinary potential, while others might go with a fine caviar, and still others might opt for an extravagant desert. However, its most useful application is still most likely the making of wicker rattan furniture, as that is where it is at its best. Its durability makes it the ideal material for making wicker furniture, as does the fact that it is so remarkably lightweight. However, its natural beauty is most likely the asset that makes it most suitable for use as furniture making material, as it would be difficult to find woods which look better in even a raw form.

The History of Gift Cards

Whoever created the idea of gift certificates was a marketing genius. The idea of taking someones money (which is valid anywhere) and giving them a certificate redeemable only at your restaurant was a pure stroke of brilliance. It made gift giving easy and guaranteed the restaurant profits either through redeemed or lost certificates.

The problem with paper gift certificates was that they took time to issue, track and redeem. Usually, the certificates were kept in a secure place and access was restricted to only a very few. If a certificate were sold, it took time to issue and interrupted the manager/owner to issue the certificate.

Tracking the certificates, which were usually sequentially numbered was critical as gift certificates could be stolen, forged and then redeemed thus creating a loss rather than additional profits. It was because of these problems that many restaurants stayed away from gift certificates and thus missed out on some huge marketing opportunities.

In recent years magnetic cards have taken the place of paper certificates. Balances were kept in a database, which were linked to the card via a number in the magnetic stripe. Some credit card companies have jumped onto this bandwagon offering gift card programs that act similar to a credit card. The balances are kept off site at the credit card processor. The processor then charges a transaction fee to add to/redeem the gift card. This fee can run between $.15 - $35 per swipe of the card. On small card transactions such as coffee houses these fees gouge deep into the profits of the sale.

A newer trend is to house the gift card balances at the store level. There is no transaction fee and virtually no time lost processing the transaction outside of the store. Any amount may be added to the balance of the card, thereby making the card reusable and not disposable. Your logo is on the card, making it a constant reminder of your restaurant every time the customer looks in their wallet.

The Need for Gift Cards

Restaurants need the ability to securely sell, track and redeem gift card transactions without transaction fees. Balances should be kept in-house. The customer should be able to add to their balance at any time, making the gift card like your own private debit card system.

The cards should be reusable and they should have your logo on them for a constant reminder of your restaurant.

The Solution To Manage Gift Cards

Many point of sale products now have optional gift card modules that tracks numbered paper certificates as well as issue, tracks, redeem and reports on magnetic gift cards. With the optional magnetic card reader and magnetic cards properly formatted for the software, you are able to take full advantage of this powerful marketing tool.

The gift cards should have your logo on them for advertising purposes. They also may be packaged for a nicer gift presentation. Some companies have even worked out reciprocal programs with other non-competitive companies to display gift cards at each others business.

The cards have no value until sold, thereby eliminating the problem of theft, forgery and redemption of stolen certificates.

The cards are reusable once fully redeemed. The customer may also add to the balance, thus creating your very own debit card system with frequent diners being able to continue to use/reuse their card on future visits. This have become huge in coffee shops where customers use their cards on a daily basis to make purchases.

Some point of sale products keeps the balances at the store level for single store operators. There is no need to process the gift card outside the store as balances are adjusted up or down at the end of the transaction. There are no transaction fees with this type of data storage.

For multiple store operators a few point of sale products have the ability to house gift card balances at a central location with every store accessing and updating gift card balances through high-speed internet connections. Even though the balances are being kept off-site there are still no transaction fees with our system.

The Benefit of Gift Cards To You

The potential for huge profits, additional sales and repeat customers are the overwhelming reasons to sell gift cards. Being able to private label the cards, add to balances and create your own debit card system make using magnetic cards for gift cards essential to a profitable restaurant operation.

Abandoned cards are also a huge area of realized profits. When balances get below $1.00 the system still recognizes them as active. However, customers tend to abandon their cards if the balances get below a certain amount. For some larger companies these abandoned balances along with lost cards equal millions of dollars per year in profits.

Some restaurant point of sale products also allow you to set expiration dates on the cards issued. This helps create a sense of urgency for your customers to come back to redeem the cards.

Some restaurateurs will use gift cards as enticements to get people to try their restaurant. Instead of writing on the back of their business card the owner will put small balances ($5 or so) on cards and then distribute them to certain people to get them to try their restaurant. This is a great way to get people to come to your restaurant and much more secure than writing on the back of a business card.

Article marketing mastery sounds more like an unattainable ideal than an actual destination doesn't it?

I don't expect to ever leave my trusty Dell one day, after writing an article and say "Damn. Nailed it. Time to 'master' something else."

It won't happen. And that's the beauty of all of this.

While I was a copywriter at J Walter Thompson and Young & Rubicam in New York, we creatives would get literally drained by the amount of times we would have to present our ideas. Internally and to the all mighty clients who pay all the bills. Present to this person, present to that person. Get on a plane to Atlanta, present. Go to focus groups, present.

One of the tricks that we came up with during all of that tedium was a game where we would try and insert a phrase into meetings with the head clients. Simple phrase...were totally unique but also HAD NOTHING AT ALL TO DO WITH WHAT WE WERE TRYING TO SELL THEM.

The 'game' part of it was to see who could most creatively insert the phrase!

For instance, before we got into the conference room with the client, the creatives would agree on the phrase, and the more ridiculous the better. So if I was selling ideas to The Bronx Zoo (which I continually did), the phrase might have been something outrageous like having to say "albino criminals" or "why LAWN FURNITURE IS SEXY.' And who ever could do it WITHOUT calling attention to how RIDICULOUS it sounded...won!

Bear with me here, I'm turning the corner.

Well what I didn't know at the time, but do very well know now is that what we were actually accomplishing with this little creative 'phrase game' was that we were inserting unique KEYWORDS into the meeting. We were, in fact, 'cloaking our keywords.'

That's right...KEYWORDS.

Now, here's why you should be playing this not so little game...

By finding VERY SMART ways to insert unique phrases into your articles THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE TOPIC OF YOUR ARTICLES, you will be able to track them as they fly around the net.

You'll be able to do natural searches for your own CRAZY keywords and see which webmasters have picked up your content. Because of the uniqueness of your keywords, they will completely be your own. No one else should have ever used these words in combination...that's your tracking key.

Again, it is very important that you DON'T use a crazy keyword (which can be more than one word, don't forget) that will pull your readers off course. It can't be disruptive. So finding clever ways of putting them in there is important to the natural flow.

Try it with one article.

Watch as your work ends up in countries you've never even heard of before.

Caring for Specialty Floors and Furniture with a Dry Cleaning Mop

While it may seem counterintuitive, some types of flooring and furniture are best cleaned dry using a dry cleaning mop or in combination with a light cleaner such as a dusting spray. Hard wood floors and laminates, for example, can be damaged by too much moisture. In order to keep the finish on these floors in the best condition, a cleaning mop specially designed for this purpose can create the best clean. A dry mop made from 100% cotton, for example, will not scratch the delicate surfaces on polished hard wood floors or specialty laminates. Over time, even the smallest scratches can create a dull appearance.

Dry cleaning mops are designed in such a way as to pick up and retain dust and small particles. As such, they are good for collecting dirt in between deeper cleanings. They also reduce the spread of dust and small dirt particles into the air, which can exacerbate allergies and asthmas. When used in combination with a dusting product, the chances of dust being kicked into the air by the mop are even smaller.

When cleaning a hardwood or laminate floor with a dry mop, begin at the far end of the room and work inward, using a figure eight pattern on the floor. Avoid the temptation to use your dry mop as a wet mop. These cleaning mops are specifically designed to be used dry, and while they may work as a wet mop, it won't be as effective thereafter as either a wet or dry mop. Additionally, dry cleaning mops do not have a mechanism for squeezing out excess liquid, which is both messy and hard on your hands and back. Besides, many specialty floorings should never be cleaned using a wet mop, such as Pergo and others. If you have specialty flooring in your home, be sure to read the manufacturer's recommendations on the care. Using the right tool for the job is one of the best tricks in effective cleaning and ultimately saves time and money.

When using a cleaning mop designed to be used dry, avoid scrubbing the floor with the mop. For caked on dirt or grime, other cleaning methods should be employed, using products and guidelines specific to your type of flooring. Because the cleaning mop is designed to trap and hold dirt, putting too much pressure on the mop can create scratches on the floor caused by the dirt particles trapped inside the mop.

Depending on the style, the best mop will be designed in such a way that in can be used to reach under low and heavy furniture such as beds or bookcases. This allows you to clean without having to break your back moving heavy furniture. It also eliminates the need to drag out a heavy vacuum to clean a small area. Some cleaning mops have the added benefit of removable heads that can be used as a hand duster, which eliminates the need to purchase specialty dusters or mitts. . The ability to replace the heads also eliminates the need for purchasing a new dry mop when the old one becomes too dirty.

Even with the removable head feature, you can still clean a cleaning mop head prior to replacing it. To avoid scattering dust in the house, take the cleaning mop outside and give it a good shake. Because these mops are designed to retain dust, it may take a bit of effort. If you use the mop with a dusting product, be sure to allow the mop ample time to dry before shaking out the excess dust. Avoid banging the dry mop head on walls, cement, or other outdoor furniture as this can damage the head.

To keep your cleaning mop in the best possible condition, store it upside down or hanging from a wall so that there is no pressure on the mop head. This helps your mop remain the best mop possible for as long as possible.

What was given away actually would make some money for the people who donated it.

People who do not care about tax deductions, either because they feel the furniture is worth so little, or they are more anxious just to have it out of the house rather than saving a few dollars at tax time can advertise their furniture ?free? to anyone who wants it. Depending on the quality of the furniture, free is often the kind of bargain many people find hard to refuse, so if the advertising is very extensive, the furniture is usually gone quickly. Depending on where a person lives, there may be a community or association bulletin board. May supermarkets have bulletins boards for people to advertise this way, and they are usually without charge.

The more useful the furniture, the more creative options there are for giving it to people who might want it. Local hospice facilities are often furnished with slightly used, quality furniture. Domestic violence shelters frequently are in need of useful furniture, and neither of these have high operating budgets. They appreciate good quality used items when they are offered. On the chance that the local organization does not need such items, they probably will know of another agency or group that may. Calls to local churches will often result in willing takers, whether they are members of the congregation or organizations that a congregation actively supports. Even local schools, with funding shrinking each year, may accept sturdy tables, desks or bookshelves, depending on the needs of the teachers. They often do not accept furniture that must be dry cleaned, or that has padding, but rather look for items that can be washed, polished or painted so they can be sanitized.

The last idea is neither selling or nor giving away---it is actually keeping one or more pieces of old furniture, but utilizing them in a new and different way. A back porch area, cluttered with boxes and little that is truly useful can be turned into a display for potted plants, by painting an old wooden chair a bright green color and placing pots all over its flat surfaces. A table that has seen better days can become an art deco piece, by stenciling it with black and white designs and putting it near the laundry room, to hold hangars, laundry baskets or even laundry supplies.

As restaurants have become more sophisticated about their menu offerings, more and more home cooks are being tempted to try to duplicate their favorite eatery's tastiest dishes in their own kitchens.

Finding favorite restaurant recipes can be a chore, but by no means an impossible one. All of the following have worked for me:

1. Ask the restaurant for the recipe. This is most direct way, and works more often than you would think, so don't be shy. Ask your waiter to ask the cook. If that fails, ask the restaurant's manager. You'll find that local, independent restaurants are more likely to be happy to give you their recipes than are the chain establishments, but it never hurts to ask. The most they can do is say no.

2. Write to the restaurant's headquarters, if its' part of a chain. In my experience, you will receive a politely written turn-down about three-quarters of the time--but one-fourth of your requests may strike culinary gold!

3. Search the Internet for your favorite recipe. There are chat boards out there where people share restaurant copycat recipes. The main problem is that you can't know which are for real and which are not. You'll frequently come across recipes claimed to be exact restaurant clones, but that never turn out quite right. So, fishing the Internet for restaurant recipes is a gamble, but you're only investing a little time--and sometimes you can get lucky.

4. Go to the bookstore and look for one of the several compilations of top-secret and most-wanted restaurant recipes that have been published in recent years. Most of these are quite good, and the recipes appear to be authentic. The only drawback is that restaurants--and their top recipes--come and go, and printed books might not be timely enough to include that newest hot dish that you and your family are hankering to make.

5. Download a secret recipes e-book from the Internet. There are several of these available, and the ones I've checked out do a great job of telling you how to clone the best recipes from the all the major restaurant chains. They are also inexpensive, considering the work that must have gone into them to find and test all those recipes. Their biggest advantage is that,being in digital form, they can be (and are!) updated frequently.--so you're practically guaranteed that your favorite recipe, no matter how new, will be found within.

There may be other ways to get hold of your favorite restaurant recipes. These five are the ones that I know. If one doesn't work for you, try another. You will succeed.

The first part of the evening you will have to search a nice restaurant, if you are in Altea, or if you want to visit this beautiful place, you will find some very nice restaurants.

If you don?t want to spend a lot of money, there is a very nice restaurant at the first line of the beach in Altea called ?Tutti Frutti?, you can gat a pizza, but I really would advice a very nice salad, served in an eatable bowl, the menus are good priced and very nice. From the terrace you can overlook the Mediterranean, which will provide you with a nice cool breeze.

Near the Altea church, moving down from the churches square in the direction of the Sierra Bernia Mountain you will find a busy street with some very nice restaurants. In ?Estromboli? you can eat very good Italian food and they have very nice smashed tomato sauce, from grandfathers own garden.

At the other side of the street you have the very nice restaurant ?Ousteau?, which is brilliantly decorated and has a fantastic ambiance. The very friendly staff will guide you to your table, which with nice warm weather can be on a cosy outside terrace, but always will be nice situated. The food is very good, you can choose from a ?Hollywood? card, making you doubt between a ?Al Pachino? steak or a ?Marlin Monroe? salad?

If you would like to spend some more, enjoying the good gastronomic life I will advice the restaurant ?el Nuevo Alcazar? in La Nucia. A really good restaurant managed by people crazy about food.

Also a very high standard you will find at the restaurant ?La Fusion? and ?Los Dos Lunas? in el Albir, 2 more to put on your list to try.

If you like to have something tipical Spanish, Benidorm is the place to be.. In the old town of Benidorm there is a special street with a lot of typical ?tapas? bars, here you will find the Spanish people enjoying all kinds of small snacks and nice wines.

Of course you will find as well Mc Donald?s as Burger king in Benidorm, but it is not recommended to go there unless you can?t really stop yourself.

The Spanish food is really great to try, like a good paella you can try it in the ?Chiringuito? in the beach of Albir, where the Spanish are all at large tables eating the paella. For those who absolutely despise of seafood there is a special paella type called ?a banda? and one with only vegetables. Also there is a very large grill were they prepare some giant steaks.

Anyway, it?s the golden rule to see if a restaurant is good, look if there are enough Spanish people sitting there!!!

Is It Legal to Copycat Restaurant Recipes?

There's a proliferation of books, both printed and electronic (downloadable from the Web), that purport to tell you how to copy your favorite dishes from your favorite restaurants. Some of these are better than others, but they all raise the question: Is it legal to "copycat" recipes in this way?

These days, with the music industry going after people who use file-sharing services to illegally post songs for others to copy, and with prominent anti-copying warnings from the FBI stuck on every movie DVD we rent or purchase, it's a natural question. People wonder if they are breaking some law by cloning a restaurant's most famous recipe--whether it's by passing around the instructions or by actually cooking and serving it to friends.

Mind you, I'm no lawyer. But I've talked to a couple of lawyer friends as well as to a number of restaurant managers. The bottom line is this: If you cook up your favorite steak or lobster dish (or whatever) copied from Big Name Restaurant--even if it's an exact duplicate--you need not worry that a SWAT team is going to break down your door and haul you away. Nor will an army of lawyers be descending on your kitchen.

Now, if you decide to open your own restaurant with dishes copied from well-known chain restaurants, and if you are so un-subtle as to give them the same names as the originals, you might have trouble on your hands! Short of this unlikely scenario, you're probably safe. But we're not talking here about going into business with other people's recipes, are we? (If you're contemplating anything along that line, then you really must consult an attorney.)

Cooking for friends can be fun. It can be more fun if you serve them dishes that are exactly like ones from their favorite restaurant. If that's your intention, and you're doing it in a private setting, you can set your mind at ease about the law. However, merely having a website with online ordering is not going to dramatically increase your orders. You will need to market your site, encourage customers to sign up and introduce new customers through promotions and specials, increase customer loyalty through loyalty programs etc. All of these marketing activities are vital to the good health of your new store. Writing An Awesome Restaurant Resume

As a restaurant management recruiter I am constantly bombarded with resumes all day, every day, on weekends and holidays. It is amazing how many great managers out there can run a profitable restaurant operation inside and out, but they have no idea what to write when it comes time to shop for their next opportunity.

In the restaurant industry it isn?t about where you went to school, what degree you have or what you like to do on your days off. Plain and simple is the best strategy for getting an interview in this field. You have to understand that the hiring managers who review your resume see more resumes than I do any given day. We are talking in the mid hundreds depending on how they have their needs and job hiring goals presented to the public. Many times a resume is passed over because it isn?t user friendly or it is out of order chronologically. The worst thing I ever saw was a resume that stopped over 2 years ago with no explanation. Go ahead and file that one in the round outbox on the floor.

Before we get started let me tell you if you are not using Microsoft Word you will probably never get another job. Compatibility is the key here and whether you like it or not Word is the king of word processing software. Please don?t try to reinvent the wheel using Word Perfect or something else obscure in the marketplace. When someone gets a file that can?t be opened with their existing software they take the path of least resistance and delete it. They don?t try and contact you via email and you just lost a potential career opportunity. So step one is always use Word or you will regret it later.

The first thing a resume should have is your name centered in 14-point bold Arial font. Arial is easy on the eyes and it doesn?t distort like some other fonts. Under that you want to put your address and phone numbers a smaller 10-point Arial. You do not need an email address on there and remember just because you have a cute or clever email address that your friends think is cool doesn?t mean anyone else will. And for your sake please change the messages on your phones to something clear and precise and welcome in the job arena. This is not the time to express yourself!

The second thing you need is an objective statement, which looks great in 12-point Arial. I would suggest keeping the text size and font the same for the rest of the r?sum?. This objective description should be clear and driven. Don?t ramble on for three sentences and think anyone will care, because they won?t. For example, a nice statement about how you want to contribute to the bottom line profitability of a team using your past experiences often works well. Through in some upward growth potential and you?re on the right track.

Next is the most important part and that is experience. Starting from the present and going back is the only way to go. All you need here is the name of the company, your title and the dates (from past when to present when). Don?t worry about exact dates, but do include months and the years obviously.

After that you will need to briefly bullet statements regarding actions while in that position. These should be one-sentence statements that are clear to the reader. Don?t tell them you are a great manager because that is vague. Instead tell me why I should hire you. For instance, did you increase sales over a two-year period or did you increase sales by 12% over a two-year period using local store marketing and targeting repeat guest counts? Do you see the difference? One statement keeps you reading and one is clouded in vagueness. Take this and run with it on all other details such as labor, food and controllable costs. Any training and development of team members is also a very good example that you are part of a team and you care about their success. Because of this you will also be successful and it will help you delegate lesser jobs onto key hourly team members.

If you follow these guidelines you will probably have about 6 to 8 bulleted statements that should get you noticed. Repeat these steps for all your previous positions as well until you have described your last 5-8 years depending on the timeframe of your career. No one cares about what you did 15 years ago in this field. They want to see the most recent performance and some career progression.

As far as references go I would consider them a waste of space. No one is going to ever list a reference from a bad experience and hiring managers know this. If you have a great looking r?sum? that flows and is widely acceptable you will be getting far more calls from interested parties than those others who don?t invest their time upfront.

I once put an ad in the paper that said, "If it's free it's for me". I had to stop the add because I collected so much stuff. Ads do work. The problem with this ad was it was not specific enough to target what I was looking for. Over time and years I then started to swap and barter the free stuff that I got for things I really wanted. I had hundreds of broken lawn mowers and hundreds of gallons of old unwanted paint. I had enough paint to dip a house if needed. Disposal now became an issue. Thus I came up with the idea of trading and barter. Now I did not invent this wheel but I had enough of them that it appeared I might have. So barter has become a means of swapping and exchanging my surpluses for other people's surpluses. Since I am in the nursery business I also have plants that are surplus. I may plant 1000 trees expecting to need 1000 and find that I have 500 more than what I need. So offering these trees on the web for barter has been an effective means to move dormant inventory. So you have just moved into your new home. Decorated it with new Amish furniture, new upholstery, new electronic goods, new hopes and loads of excitement. While the excitement wears down after a few months as you get accustomed to your new surroundings, you certainly do not want your furniture to wear down too. Not in a few months, not in a few years either. While you may take very good care of your furniture pieces and clean them regularly, there are a few environmental factors that tend to take their toll.

Ultraviolet light damages wooden and other organic material furniture. This kind of damage is irreversible. Exposure to less light for a longer period of time or exposure to strong light for a shorter period of time will both cause similar damage and discoloration. The light energy converts to heat energy on contact with furniture surfaces. This rise in temperature chemically causes the polishes or colors to degrade. The wood would then need to be stripped and refinished to restore its previous look.

To avoid all the damage light can cause, avoid keeping furniture in direct sunlight. Draw the curtains, especially in the afternoon hours. Put blinds or drapes on all windows. You could also get your windows coated with UV-filtering film (like you do in cars).

Moisture in air can also cause great damage to furniture. You must have noticed wooden doors becoming tight and getting stuck during the wet days or some green fungus appearing on unpolished wooden pieces. Wood expands or contracts with an increase or decrease in the relative humidity in the air. A 40% - 60% relative humidity is tolerable. Beyond this level, wood starts to expand. At low levels it may shrink and cause a split. The wood and the finish covering it respond differently to the changes in humidity. This may cause the coating to separate from the wooden surface and peel off. High humidity can cause insect infestation and fungus and mold growth as well. To prevent damage, avoid placing furniture in areas of extreme temperature and humidity conditions. If you furniture pieces are really precious, you can also maintain the humidity in their vicinity by using humidifiers and dehumidifiers.

An RH of below 39% will cause the wood to dry out and warp. Applying oil will not really prevent that. The best option is a coating of good paste wax. Wax is very stable and does not change chemically over time and provides protection from moisture and airborne pollutants. Carefully apply the coat on furniture with a pronounced grain pattern such as Amish oak furniture. A thin coat applied once a year is enough. Do not wax furniture that is gilded, painted or lacquered.

Check for any environmental and other damages before buying used furniture from auctions etc. When buying used Amish furniture online, make sure the original quality craftsmanship has been maintained well by the previous owner. A little care on your part will increase the life of your furniture by many years.
