Invoking visions of the time of the Pharaohs of ancient Egypt, replicas of Egyptian theme furniture have continued to find their way into modern decorative schemes. The Egyptians are among the first cultures that have given us insight into their use of furniture because so many pictures have been found in the tombs uncovered. The furniture was made mostly from wood, and the passing years have deteriorated them to dust. However, some pieces have survived to give us a better idea, and to confirm that the drawings represented furniture the way it actually was in the homes of the nobles of Egypt three thousand years ago.

The Egyptians combined their practical and their artistic sides in their furniture design. They had a great deal of respect for nature and the natural world, and this is reflected also. One of the first and most basic items of Egyptian theme furniture was the simple stool. It seems to have been a staple item in every Egyptian home. It was covered with pictures of animals, and its feet were often carved into the shape of animal's feet or claws. Folding stools were common. They were most likely first used by armies while in the field, but soon found their way into homes.

Chairs are thought to have evolved from the earlier and more basic stools by a slow process of adding ever larger backrests. A chair that once sat in the home of an Egyptian noble three thousand years ago, now sits in the British Museum. It is made of cedar imported, most likely, from Lebanon and has inlaid ivory in the shape of lotus blossoms in the back rest. The legs end in the curved claws of a lion. The woods of Egypt came mostly from trees like the acacia, the fig, date, or willow. These trees yielded wood full of knots, with poor grain and not much strength. Hardwoods were exported from Lebanon, Syria, Nubia, and Ethiopia.

Beds were an interesting item in Egyptian theme furniture. Their design remained unchanged for over two thousands years. They were slanted downward from the head, and the foot rest served the very practical purpose of keeping you from sliding off. Many beds were built with side rails as well. Again, almost all the legs were carved into the shape of animal feet. This ranged from the hooves of bulls or fleet gazelles, to the feline curved claws of a lion. The mattress was made from wooden slats or reeds. Often a woolen cushion would add comfort, and the sheets were made from linen.

Today replicas of Egyptian theme furniture are available. Many of them are intended more for decoration and theme enhancement than for practical use. This fact would have offended the ancient ones whose designs are copied. They believed in the melding of the beautiful and aesthetic with the practical. They would have hardly understood a chair that was intended to be only looked at regardless of how expensive and beautiful it might be.

Secret Chili Restaurant Recipe - Three Bean Enchilada Chili

This chili restaurant recipe is a secret restaurant recipe called "Three Bean Enchilada Chili." This chili recipe is somewhat unusual because it uses a secret restaurant enchilada sauce instead of tomatoes and the enchilada sauce contains a secret ingredient as well.

Three Bean Enchilada Chili - three times the flavor plus secret ingredients that makes this a secret chili restaurant recipe!

This chili restaurant recipe is a secret restaurant recipe because it specifically calls for Ancho chile powder, and it does make a difference. And this chili recipe is also somewhat unusual because it uses a secret restaurant enchilada sauce instead of tomatoes!

The Ancho is a dried poblano chile which is then ground into powder. Ancho chiles have a mild, fruity and slightly sweet taste. They start out as fresh green poblano chiles and after being ripened to red and then dried, they become shriveled, smoky and dark brown in color. Left to dry, the chiles can be crushed and made into spice powder or used to season chili and other Mexican dishes such as mole and tacos.

I created this recipe at home, tested it on my husband and then tried it at my restaurant after my husband raved about it and encouraged me to do so. My restaurant customer were pleased he asked me to do so. It is now a favorite restaurant chili recipe.

Three Bean Enchilada Chili RecipeChili Restaurant RecipePreparation time: 30 minutes for preparing the sauce. Serves 6-8.

Ingredients:

1-2 tablespoons vegetable or olive oil2 pounds lean ground beef, ground chuck or other meat such as chopped chuck steak or even chicken or pork1 cup onions, chopped1 cup red, green or yellow bell pepper, chopped8 cups of my enchilada sauce (recipe below)One 15-16 ounce can of pinto beans, rinsed and drainedOne 15-16 ounce can red or kidney beans, rinsed and drainedOne 15-16 ounce can black beans, rinsed and drained1 tablespoon Ancho chile powder (use Ancho - it makes a difference and makes this a secret restaurant recipe)1/4 teaspoon garlic powder1 teaspoon ground cumin1 teaspoon sea salt or to taste1 cup (or to taste) Cheddar or Monterrey Jack cheese, shredded1/2 cup (or to taste) Green onions, chopped

Instructions:

Heat oil in a 3-4 quart soup pot over medium-high heat, add meat and cook until beginning to brownAdd the onions and peppers and cook until crisp-tender (4-5 minutes), stirring occasionallyDrain meat mixture, add my enchilada sauce, beans and spices and bring to boilReduce heat and simmer 15-20 minutes or until meat is tender (if using chopped meat) and flavors are blendedCorrect seasoning to your tasteLadle into bowls and garnish with shredded cheese and green onions and tortilla chips if you like

Serve with cornbread or warm tortillas and enjoy!

Enchilada SaucePreparation time: 30 minutes. Serves 6-8.

Ingredients:

3 tablespoons vegetable oil, olive oil or bacon drippings2-3 cloves of garlic, minced3 tablespoons flour1 teaspoon ground oregano2 tablespoons chile powder (Ancho chile powder, if you have it)1 tablespoon tomato paste (I sometimes use taco sauce)1 teaspoon salt, or to taste1/2 teaspoon white pepper1/4 teaspoon cayenne, optional4 cups beef stock

Instructions:

Heat oil or bacon drippings in a skillet over low heat and saute the garlic, flour and oregano until golden in colorAdd chile powder, 1 cup of beef stock, tomato paste and simmer for 2-3 minutesAdd remaining stock, salt, white pepper and cayenneSimmer for 20-30 minutesCorrect seasoning

TA-DA! You're done!

The newest craze in wall d?cor is now finding its way in to the handcrafted furniture industry by providing a simple and inexpensive way to create raised designs in styles ranging from simplistic to highly ornate. How is it being done? With specially designed stencils. Though the process can be done with common craft stencils, they typically do not create a raise high enough to even be noticeable. “Raised Plaster” stencils are cut of very thick, heavy-duty mylar that in just a few moments and with very little effort, create a raised design on finished or un-finished wood pieces using a variety of mediums. Mediums found to be very successful in this application range from common Wall Board Joint Compound (also known as “wall mud”), to products that include plaster combined with wood fiber (Brand named “Fix-it-All” or “Quick Fix” depending on the area of the country it is sold in) to any variety of wood putty. All of these products can be found in your local home or hardware stores. When using pre-mixed joint compound products or dry compound “Fix-it-All” or “Quick Fix”, the addition of white or wood glue is beneficial in creating a permanent adhesion of the product to your project piece, making it durable and rock hard. The recipe is as follows: 2 cups of joint compound combined with ? cup of wood or white glue. or 2 cups of Powdered Compound combined with ? cup of white or wood glue and enough water to create a frosting-like consistency. The application process is as simple as frosting a cake. Step 1. Simply tape the stencil to the desired area on your piece. Step 2. Using a flat edged pallet knife (with about a 2″ wide blade) spread the mixture over the top of the stencil openings then scrape smooth to remove any excess. Step 3. Carefully remove the stencil by un-taping 3 corners, leaving the last corner taped to provide stability, then pulling the stencil gently toward that last piece of tape. Any smudges can simply be removed with a wet cotton swab. A rougher texture in the design can be achieved by either not scraping the stencil smooth before removal, or by laying your pallet knife flat against the openings then creating minor “lifts” in the compound that will dry to create “peaks and valleys” in the design. Colorings can be added to any of the above products with any “pure pigment” medium such as Powdered Fabric Dye, Pure Pigment Paints, Stucco and even concrete colorings. Be aware however, that including liquid colorings may thin your medium. We recommend dry, powdered colorings for best results. When adding colors, do remember that the color you see in its “wet” form, will dry lighter so adjust colors as necessary. It is advisable to color a small amount of compound and allow it to dry to see the likely finished result. If you are planning to simply stain and varnish your piece, use wood putty products rather than compounds to create a more natural, wood toned raised design. Design possibilities are endless with the use of stencils. Many ornate styles are on the market manufactured by companies specializing in stencils. Specialty, extra thick stencils can be found by simply doing a search for “Plaster Stencils” on the Internet. You will find designs in the form of “friezes” (central designs) that can be used on doors, front facings and fascia boards, molding and border designs to create straight borders or framing designs. You will also find very small designs for use on smaller, more delicate projects or smaller areas such as tight corners on a table or chair. If you create your items for sale, you will broaden your market simply by making your product ever more appealing to not only the upscale consumer, but the general market as well. Not only have you now added more value to your item, but you did it literally for pennies since the compound and stencils are very reasonably priced, creating many, many items from a single purchase. Fifteen years ago, chances are you never heard of electric wheelchairs. Although they have been around for longer than that, they were not readily available until the past 10 to 12 years.

That’s when companies like The Scooter Store and Hoveround began to market the wheelchairs nationally in the same manor that diabetic supply companies promoted diabetic medical supplies that were Medicare covered. When these companies began their national advertising campaigns for electric wheelchairs, the demand for the equipment nearly tripled in under three years (from 1999 to 2002). The Medicare expenditures for these wheelchairs increased by a whopping $556 million over this time period.

This does not, however, mean that the increase has been a bad thing for Medicare. According to a 2005 independent study, the electric wheelchair industry actually saves Medicare billions annually because Medicare people who receive electric wheelchairs tend to be healthier overall and suffer fewer injuries. The study found that the rate of people with broken hips was significantly lower when individuals had electric wheelchairs.

So, what happens if you have unique furniture that is either hard to find, a family heirloom or some other situation? As surprising as this may sound, you should still discount it when evaluating the merits of a particular property. You are buying the home for your personal comfort and investment, not for the concerns of the furniture. You can always store that unique furniture or give heirlooms to a family member.

There are many factors that go into the decision to purchase a property. Determining whether your furniture goes with the property or fits should not be one of them.

An Open Letter to All Restaurant Owners

Do you know the number one reason most restaurants fail within their first year of business?

They deserve it, that's why.

I know that sounds harsh but you have to understand that when we come into your establishments, it's because we're paying for a dining experience we can't get at home. Our expectations aren't high -all we desire is a decent meal, a little service and the peace of mind that comes from knowing we don't have to drag the shopvac up from the basement to clean under our children's chairs. That doesn't seem like too much to ask, does it?

Apparently it is. Lately, I find the only way to get through a terrible dining experience is to imagine myself eating in one of the seaside cafes depicted in the expensive murals that cover the walls. Many's the time I've "disappeared" into a charming Italian villa by the sea while waiting for my missing waiter to reappear with the bill.

But I'm not here to just complain about the state of the restaurant industry or to encourage greater use of murals that showcase charming seaside communities to stimulate daydreaming as a means of overcoming unpleasant customer service experiences, I want to help - particularly those entrepreneurs considering whether or not they have what it takes to open a new restaurant.

So here are ten helpful tips from a seasoned diner to make sure your restaurant lasts longer than a Whoopi Goldberg talk show.

1. Always greet people when they enter your restaurant. Customers love this because it reinforces their belief that they are actually alive and can still be seen by others.

2. Customers appreciate it when a waitperson tells them their first name when they approach the table. This makes it much easier to seek additional support when their waiter or waitress disappears without a trace. "Have you seen Lance? We're still down three entrees and about to draw straws to determine who's going to plaster his picture on telephone poles."

3. Most people consider a dining experience to be a positive one when their entrees all come out at the same time. The only exception to this rule is when you serve customers who view unsynchronized meal delivery as a wagering opportunity.

4. While many waiters and waitresses are aspiring actors, encourage them to write down the specials if they can't remember them. Seasoned diners can spot an improvised specials speech a mile away. "Our Ahi tuna is served piping hot in a reduced balsamic ...um, seafood glaze with olives, anchovies and uh, a tiny medallion of tapioca pudding."

5. Make sure the tables are set and never underestimate the feeling of comfort people derive from knowing that their eating utensils are all present and accounted for when they are first seated. Have you ever tried to have a conversation with someone missing a knife and a fork at a restaurant? Monosyllabic responses during normally lively conversations, eyes darting nervously about the room searching for someone, anyone to bring them utensils before the food arrives, muttered open ended questions with no easy answers like "Where is this guy?" One missing fork can spoil an entire evening and you haven't even brought out the meal yet.

6. If you advertise your restaurant as a family restaurant it always helps if the staff pretends to actually like children. Parents with kids rarely return to a family themed restaurant if the owner uses a throat slashing gesture from behind the register to communicate that the use of crayons is frowned upon.

7. At this stage in our human existence, it is no longer necessary to include photographs of food as a means of describing them in a menu. People know what most dishes are supposed to look like and they never look like the dishes in the pictures anyway.

8. While food presentation is important, if a customer can't decide whether to eat an entr?e or have it framed - you probably shouldn't be in the restaurant business.

9. A bill should never be delivered looking like a Jackson Pollack painting. If it's not uncommon to see a group of customers hovering over a bill like a heart transplant team, confiscate the ink pens from your wait staff and exchange them for pencils or even a computer - they're much less expensive now and often come bundled with encyclopedia software.

10. When someone requests water from a waitperson, actually bring them a glass. They love that.

Barbie and Ken: Furniture Design Ideas

I have two weaknesses that get me into trouble. One is that I eat too much chocolate, and the other is that I overindulge when fabric shopping. When I first walk into a fabric store, I am drawn to color, flash, texture, fringe, and embellishments! I might enter the store needing only some elastic or thread, but I leave with another dozen fabric swatches and fancy trims that I did not expect to buy. How do I justify these seemingly unnecessary purchases? Well, I create furniture for my Barbie and Ken dolls! Typically, I make a cozy furniture ensemble that includes a sofa, a chair, an ottoman, and coordinating pillows. You can design furniture for your own dolls, too. Here are some fun ideas to try:

1. Start with what you have. Even though I enjoy shopping for new materials, I first go through my inventory of fabric remnants to see what I already have that might be useful. In one instance, I had a geometric pattern of yellow, blue, and purple for the chair. Then, I used a solid purple color for the sofa. I made an ottoman and pillows using both of these fabrics along with additional materials.

2. Find additional fabric pieces that coordinate with the two main fabrics used for the sofa and chair. Go for something with sparkle or fur to add texture and variety. These fabrics will be used to enhance the ottoman and pillows, adding interest to the overall style of the furniture ensemble.

3. Shop for fabric! Sometimes you will not have anything in your supplies that suits your furniture design idea. As an example, I wanted to create a jungle theme with faux snakeskin, but I did not have any faux snakeskin. I now had an excuse to go shopping and buy some.

4. Use iron-on transfers to personalize your ottoman and pillows. Locate an image and print it on special transfer paper made to iron onto fabric. Craft stores often have several different transfer papers to choose from. I find cotton fabrics work best for a project like this. For my faux snakeskin furniture, I decided to add a large tiger to the top surface of the ottoman. I was able to do this using these transfer sheets. Also, I was able to iron a little design onto the front of a pillow. This detail gave the furniture a unique quality.

5. Add trims and other embellishments. When you are in a fabric store, you will finally have an excuse to purchase some of those gorgeous decorative trims. You know the ones I?m talking about. You walk down the trim isle and see all sorts of lace, fur, beads, ribbons, and fringe, but you never have a reason to justify the splurge. Now you have a reason, so don?t hesitate to pick up a yard or two. In one case, I designed a denim furniture set. It was fun to splurge on leather and cowhide accents.

6. If you are planning to display or sell your furniture, try designing a dress for your Barbie doll using the same or coordinating fabrics. Then, seat her on either the sofa or the chair so that potential buyers can see what the actual scale or size of the furniture is. Having your doll in a matching dress enhances the presentation, and people will be very impressed.

7. Realize that this is an opportunity to be creative, and let imagination be your guide. Match fabrics that you would not ordinarily put together. Sew some fringe in unexpected places. Enjoy yourself and laugh along the way. For instance, I stumbled on some bright green and pink zebra fabric in the sale section of a fabric store. It was a bit wild for my own personal taste, but it made for a sharp looking doll sofa. I matched it up with a bright pink vinyl chair, and it looked great.

Now you know how I justify my weakness for fabric shopping sprees. So, how do I justify my weakness for eating too much chocolate? Well, do I really need a good reason?

The ambience of the dining room could be just as important as the presentation of the food when it comes to enjoying your eating experience; therefore it’s a must that you choose the best furniture for your dining room. The most prominent furniture of the dining room is the dining table. Therefore, it’s very important to choose a dining table that suits your taste and your lifestyle. For example, an expandable table is best for a small family that just happens to like inviting people over. A glass table would fit a small room best because it gives the illusion of spaciousness. For a big family with many kids, a table that’s easy to clean is best, it should also be safe for the children so glass tables are discouraged and round and wooden tables are encouraged. Just as important are the chairs. The color of the chairs must match the colors of the utensils to create a sense of color coordination in the room. The color, red, is said to stimulate the appetite. However, pleasing it may be to have a beautiful dining room, buying new furniture isn’t exactly cheap But if you know where to look, you could actually be able to find a dining room set that’s dependable and stylish yet affordable. You could scour the garage sales for old tables which can be beautified by a bit of polish and paint, or chairs that can be varnished and covered with cushions to make them look like they’re new. With some patience and perseverance, you can make your dining room look like it was built for a king.

Now let?s compare this to a restaurant, say a buffet, I know you have been to one of these. They have an average of four thousand guests a week. Now, we will do the math, which comes to about five hundred seventy two people a day. This leads me to believe that restaurants should clean their carpet every week, and not the standard once a month. That is right, most restaurants clean ONCE A MONTH for your health. Keep that in mind the next time you eat at your favorite restaurant.

Restaurants in Cambridge offer fine cuisine from around the world. From Mexican to Malaysian you are sure to find it within easy reach of the Town Centre.

The number of restaurants in Cambridge has grown substantially in the last two years, due in part to an increase in the number of Italian migrants settling in the surrounding villages. Not only has this lead to an increase in the number of restaurants, but also in the number of diners passing through their doors.

Another trend that has seen a big increase in the number of people making use of the diverse range is the ever increasing student population who are making the most of student specials and other hot offers that the restaurateurs are promoting.

In the town centre, the two main areas for dining are Regent street and Bridge Street where most of the restaurants are situated.

Regent Street tends to be more noisy and family orientated with the big restaurant chains such as Pizza Express and Pizza Hut dominating the street. There are a couple of good Chinese and Indian restaurants along here, as well as some good pub Grub if Pizza isn?t your thing.

Bridge Street, with the river Cam flowing nearby, is a more tranquil and upmarket setting for dining and that is reflected in the quality of the restaurants. The cuisine is more Bistro and tapas than pizza and curry, although that is also available if that?s what you want. We would recommend Chez Gerard and La Tapas as two good examples of Bridge Street dining.

Outside of the main shopping area, back towards the Grafton Centre you have the student area around Mill Road where a lot of the Indian restaurants are. These tend to cater more for the student crowd and if it?s just a good value curry and a beer you are after you can do much worse than check out the Curry Queen at 106.

Nursery furniture is something that every expectant family is looking forward to, until you walk into the store and notice the price tags that go along with most of the sets available. The History of Antique Wheelchairs

Modern wheelchairs are lightweight, customizable, and available for sports, battery-operated and constantly being improved. In spite of the modern feel of wheelchairs, they have been around in one form or another for much longer than most people would guess. Probably from the time that wheels were invented and the time that chairs were around, it was natural that the two would come together. If that seems like an exaggeration, then read on about the history of antique wheelchairs.

A Long, Long Time Ago

The oldest existing picture of a chair with wheels is from China – in the 6th Century! The odds that they were around before someone drew a picture that would survive this long are excellent. There is also an image of a wheeled chair from Ancient Egypt. Again, it’s more likely that it exists because their culture made long-lasting images than that they invented antique wheelchairs. Records show that in the 16th Century, King Phillip of Spain owned an elaborate rolling chair and in 1700, King Louis XIV of France used a wheeled conveyance while recuperating from an operation. No doubt commoners with a flair for furniture building found uses for antique wheelchairs as well.

It was in the 18th Century that the antique wheelchairs began to resemble our modern version. It had two large front wheels and a caser in the back. After the American Civil War and World War I, antique wheelchairs were built with wooden frames, wicker seats, big spoked wheels and featured adjustable arm and foot rests. A patent was filed in 1894 for the first wheelchair that could be propelled by the occupant.

The first folding wheelchair was designed in 1932. It was invented by an injured mining engineer and a mechanical engineer who went on to found the E&J Company. These antique wheelchairs are probably quite collectible since the same company developed the first powered wheelchair in the 1950s. This is the same decade that saw wheelchair sports develop in England. The first Paralympics were held in Tokyo, Japan in 1964. Wheelchair athlete Bob Hall completed the 1975 Boston Marathon in a manual wheelchair.

Lighter weight antique wheelchairs began showing up in the 1970s and 1980s in response to the need for sports chairs. Microprocessor controls for power chairs showed up in the 1980s. After this point, the term “antique wheelchairs” seems out of place. The developments in the 1990s were very modern, but nevertheless the history of antique wheelchairs is truly amazing.

There is not much known about ancient Chinese chairs. What we do know is that during the Tang dynasty, which was from 618 to 907 AD, higher seats started to appear among the Chinese elite and then soon spread to the more common people of China. By the 12th century, sitting on the floor, which at one time was what every Chinese person did, was becoming less common even though in other Asian countries the custom of sitting on the floor continued.

We then move on to the Renaissance period. In Europe especially, it is because of the Renaissance period that the chair became a symbol of authority in the European State. It became custom that the only people who had chairs were those of authority or royalty or those who could simply afford them as they were very expensive. However, once the idea of privilege faded away, the chair became more common in everyone’s household.

Once chairs started to be manufactured for common people it was immediately noticeable that the chairs themselves reflected the fashions of the times. Over the course of the Renaissance period chairs have varied in size, shape and sturdiness. They were fashioned not only after women’s dress but after men’s as well. Writing An Awesome Restaurant Resume

As a restaurant management recruiter I am constantly bombarded with resumes all day, every day, on weekends and holidays. It is amazing how many great managers out there can run a profitable restaurant operation inside and out, but they have no idea what to write when it comes time to shop for their next opportunity.

In the restaurant industry it isn?t about where you went to school, what degree you have or what you like to do on your days off. Plain and simple is the best strategy for getting an interview in this field. You have to understand that the hiring managers who review your resume see more resumes than I do any given day. We are talking in the mid hundreds depending on how they have their needs and job hiring goals presented to the public. Many times a resume is passed over because it isn?t user friendly or it is out of order chronologically. The worst thing I ever saw was a resume that stopped over 2 years ago with no explanation. Go ahead and file that one in the round outbox on the floor.

Before we get started let me tell you if you are not using Microsoft Word you will probably never get another job. Compatibility is the key here and whether you like it or not Word is the king of word processing software. Please don?t try to reinvent the wheel using Word Perfect or something else obscure in the marketplace. When someone gets a file that can?t be opened with their existing software they take the path of least resistance and delete it. They don?t try and contact you via email and you just lost a potential career opportunity. So step one is always use Word or you will regret it later.

The first thing a resume should have is your name centered in 14-point bold Arial font. Arial is easy on the eyes and it doesn?t distort like some other fonts. Under that you want to put your address and phone numbers a smaller 10-point Arial. You do not need an email address on there and remember just because you have a cute or clever email address that your friends think is cool doesn?t mean anyone else will. And for your sake please change the messages on your phones to something clear and precise and welcome in the job arena. This is not the time to express yourself!

The second thing you need is an objective statement, which looks great in 12-point Arial. I would suggest keeping the text size and font the same for the rest of the r?sum?. This objective description should be clear and driven. Don?t ramble on for three sentences and think anyone will care, because they won?t. For example, a nice statement about how you want to contribute to the bottom line profitability of a team using your past experiences often works well. Through in some upward growth potential and you?re on the right track.

Next is the most important part and that is experience. Starting from the present and going back is the only way to go. All you need here is the name of the company, your title and the dates (from past when to present when). Don?t worry about exact dates, but do include months and the years obviously.

After that you will need to briefly bullet statements regarding actions while in that position. These should be one-sentence statements that are clear to the reader. Don?t tell them you are a great manager because that is vague. Instead tell me why I should hire you. For instance, did you increase sales over a two-year period or did you increase sales by 12% over a two-year period using local store marketing and targeting repeat guest counts? Do you see the difference? One statement keeps you reading and one is clouded in vagueness. Take this and run with it on all other details such as labor, food and controllable costs. Any training and development of team members is also a very good example that you are part of a team and you care about their success. Because of this you will also be successful and it will help you delegate lesser jobs onto key hourly team members.

If you follow these guidelines you will probably have about 6 to 8 bulleted statements that should get you noticed. Repeat these steps for all your previous positions as well until you have described your last 5-8 years depending on the timeframe of your career. No one cares about what you did 15 years ago in this field. They want to see the most recent performance and some career progression.

As far as references go I would consider them a waste of space. No one is going to ever list a reference from a bad experience and hiring managers know this. If you have a great looking r?sum? that flows and is widely acceptable you will be getting far more calls from interested parties than those others who don?t invest their time upfront.

Have you ever wondered how restaurants get their coffee to taste so good?

First of all, restaurants are in the business of pampering you so they devote much more time to the perfection of a good cup of coffee. Sometimes I'll remember a restaurant just because of their excellent coffee.

So what are their secrets and how can you duplicate this recipe at home? It may surprise you to find out that the French Press brewing method could be the secret in achieving that restaurant quality taste.

Most fine restaurants use a press pot, also known as the French Press, which produces an extremely rich cup of coffee.

Press pot coffee is coffee steeped for 3-4 minutes between 195 to 205 degrees F. It produces a thicker and much richer taste than an auto-drip machine can produce.

A disadvantage of the French Press is it may leave trace amounts of coffee sediment. But the rich taste more than makes up for the small amount of sediment at the bottom of your cup.

So first, start off with a quality medium roast coffee, which is what most restaurants use. I can give you a couple of good recommendations.

Seattle's Best Breakfast Blend, Starbucks Breakfast Blend or Starbucks Sulawesi Coffee is 3 excellent choices. These are full-bodied coffees yet very smooth tasting. They are some of our best sellers at PerfectCoffees.com and work well for French Press brewing.

You want to grind the coffee slightly larger than you would for drip coffee. Too fine of a grind will produce a bitter cup of coffee. If your grind is too coarse, the coffee will taste weak. A quality grinder is the best thing you can do to improve the taste of French press coffee.

Remove the plunger from the press pot and put 1 rounded tablespoon of coarse ground coffee per each 6oz. of water into the pot. You can adjust this to your own taste.

Coffee is 99% water so use clean filtered or bottled water free from chlorine and other minerals that affect the taste of coffee.

Boil the water and remove it from the heat for five minutes before you pour it. This will give you the 195 to 205 degree water that is ideal to brew with. Now pour the 195 to 205 degree water over the ground coffee.

Stir the coffee to get total saturation of the grounds then place the plunger on top of the pot and let the coffee steep for 3 to 4 minutes.

Depress the plunger slowly to push the grounds to the bottom of the pot.

Serve all the coffee in the pot after the 3 to 4 minutes of steeping. Otherwise the coffee will keep getting stronger.

If you have any left, you can always transfer it to a clean, preheated air pot or a stainless steel Thermos. This will keep the coffee hot about an hour without hurting the flavor.

The French press brewing method definitely takes more time but gives us the result we are looking for. Restaurant quality coffee in the comfort of your own home.

Futon furniture comes from the Japanese mattress that is used as a bed. The futon is a mattress that is about two or more inches thick that is placed on the floor. The mattress is filled with cotton stuffing. During the day the mattress is packed away. The American version of the futon comes from this Japanese concept, except the mattress in on a frame, which can be wood or metal. It appeared in America in the later 1960s and today is considered to be a space saving inexpensive piece of furniture.

Today, the American version of the futon comes in different shapes and sizes. The frames can be from five feet to seven feet wide. The futon is a chair or a sofa during the day and a bed when it is opened up at night. They come as either a bi-fold or a tri-fold. This refers to the number of times the mattress is folded or bent as the bed converts to a sofa. A bi-fold sleeper turns into a sofa by pulling up the back of the wood or metal frame. They can be plain or very elaborate but they assemble with eight or ten screws. The frames can cost up to seven hundred dollars or more. There is also a great deal of variety in the futon mattress today, from the simple cotton filled Japanese version. A futon mattress can range in price from one hundred dollars to over six hundred dollars depending on the tastes of the buyer.

The nice thing about the futon is the cover, which the owner can change at any time. The buyer can chose from a colors, patterns and textures, with and without pillows. The price of the covers without pillow can range from about thirty dollars to about two hundred dollars. A high end futon can cost about fifteen hundred dollars, so even though they are space savers, they aren?t always inexpensive space savers.
